This course has been very helpful for my teaching. I have enjoyed being able to work at my own pace. The assignments helped me think about ways I can improve my teaching of writing and were open ended so that I can reflect on what will help me as an educator. It helped me think about how I can provide modeling support to my students and also how to use mentor texts. It met my expectations in that it provided me with readings that were interesting and the videos provided good coaching for teachers.
This class exceeded my expectations and I would highly recommend this book to others. You know it’s a great book when you find yourself calling other teachers to share things while reading it. There are books we have to read and may take nothing away, but then there are books that we read, reflect, and find ourselves eager to try.Thank you for creating this class. It has given me so many ideas and got me started on creating my class. I’m so excited to implement it in Fall.
I am delighted that I chose this course because I feel like the book has so many practical and powerful applications that I can implement in my classroom. I am excited to have the book as a resource to go back to when I need an idea for a conference or a checklist for writers. I have so many sticky notes bursting out of the book. To me, that is a sign of a good instructional guide.
I really appreciated the pacing and the gentle reminders to get my assignments in. I needed that because it would have been too easy to say I have a year and I will get it done at some point. Reading the book in succession, making notes, and now having the opportunity to practice what I read will be incredibly beneficial to my teaching practice. I never felt like I was doing an assignment for the sake of an assignment. All of the reading responses were very practical and felt like time well spent developing tools that I can use in the classroom. I really appreciated that!
