TINT's Author and Illustrator Speaker Series- Our 35th Year!
Join TINT for the 35th Annual Author and Illustrator Speaker Series! In this all-new graduate class, nationally recognized authors and illustrators will share insights into their lives and creative processes over engaging Zoom sessions. Classes run from January to May, providing valuable strategies to inspire young readers through popular children's books. Enhance your professional growth while exploring the joy of children's literature—don't miss this exciting opportunity! With new authors and illustrators annually, even if you've taken this course before, you'll want to sign up again!
Designed for K-8 teachers, public and school librarians and media specialists.
All meetings will be held over Zoom.
Dates: Jan 28, Feb 11, Feb 25, March 11, April 8, April 22 and May 6, 2025
Time: 6-7:30pm PST
Choose the class option that's right for you!
Option 1: Earn 3 Graduate Quarter Credits from SPU.
Fees: $540 TINT Tuition +$165 SPU credit fee, both paid to SPU.
Assignments include class participation, a response journal and 3 additional assignments that you pick from a long list of options.
Option 2: Earn 10 Clock Hours (1 CEU) from SPU
Fees: $300 TINT Tuition + $20 SPU Clock hour fee, both paid to SPU.
Attend and participate in live classes. Submit abbreviated response journal. No assignments.
Option 3: Audit/Non-Credit/Class Participant
Fees: $300 TINT Tuition paid to TINT
Attend and participate in live classes. No assignments.

PRESENTERS:
Jason Chin is an award-winning author and illustrator of children’s books, celebrated for his ability to combine stunning visuals with engaging narratives that explore scientific concepts. His works, including Island: A Story of the Galápagos, Gravity, and Your Place in the Universe. For Grand Canyon he won a Newbery Honor and for Watercress he won a Newbery Award. Jason's books and curiosity about the natural world. He lives in Vermont, where he continues to create thought-provoking literature for young readers. (Speaking January 28) jasonchin.net
Christopher Paul Curtis is a celebrated author known for his poignant and engaging stories for young readers. He gained widespread acclaim with his Newbery Medal-winning novel Bud, Not Buddy, which tells the tale of a young boy's quest to find his father during the Great Depression. Curtis's work often draws on his own experiences growing up in Flint, Michigan, and addresses themes of resilience, identity, and the African American experience. His other notable works include The Watsons Go to Birmingham—1963, a Coretta Scott King Award winner, and Elijah of Buxton, which received both the Newbery Honor and the Scott O'Dell Award for Historical Fiction. Through his powerful storytelling and rich characters, Curtis has made a lasting impact on children's literature. He lives in Canada continues to inspire young readers with his relatable narratives and heartfelt messages. (Speaking February 11)
Laura Marsh is an accomplished author and editor in children's book publishing, with over 20 years of experience. She has written more than 30 non-fiction titles in the National Geographic Readers series, including Pyramids, which became an Amazon #1 bestseller in Children’s Middle Eastern History. Laura’s work has been recognized by the Maine Education Association, which has selected one of her books for all first graders in the state for three consecutive years. Her title Tigers is featured in Lucy Calkins’ Units of Study, a popular reading and writing program used across the U.S. and internationally. Laura lives in Westchester County, NY, with her husband, two sons, and their dog, Bode. (Speaking February 25). lauramarshbooks.com
Greg Pizzoli is an award-winning author and illustrator known for his delightful children's books. His work has garnered critical acclaim, including the prestigious Theodor Seuss Geisel Award for The Watermelon Seed. Greg's vibrant illustrations and engaging storytelling have made his titles favorites among young readers and educators alike. Notable books include The Book Hog, Number One Sam, and This is Not a Picture Book. He has also contributed to various anthologies and collaborated on projects that celebrate creativity in children’s literature. Greg works in a studio he shares with his wife, Kay Healy, a printmaker and author. Matthew Cordell is an award-winning author and illustrator of children’s books, renowned for his whimsical storytelling and enchanting illustrations that resonate with young readers. His works, including Wolf in the Snow, Bear Outside, and Another Day as Emily, showcase his talent for blending heartwarming narratives with playful art. Matthew's dedication to capturing the joys of childhood has earned him prestigious accolades, including the Caldecott Medal for Wolf in the Snow. Trudy Ludwig is a renowned author of children's literature, celebrated for her engaging stories that address social issues such as friendship, kindness, and bullying. Her books, including My Secret Bully, The Invisible Boy, and Better Than You, have been widely praised for their ability to foster empathy and understanding among young readers. Trudy’s work has been featured in various educational programs and has received numerous accolades, including the Christopher Award. With a background in education, she is passionate about promoting social-emotional learning through her writing. Pam Muñoz Ryan is an acclaimed author of children's and young adult literature, celebrated for her rich storytelling and diverse characters. Her notable works include Esperanza Rising, which won the Pura Belpré Award, Echo, a multi-layered novel praised for its intricate narrative, and The Dreamers, a poignant exploration of hope and family. Other popular titles include Paint the Wind, Saving Sky, and One Hundred Steps, which reflect her commitment to themes of identity, resilience, and cultural heritage. In addition to her fiction, Pam has written several picture books and has collaborated on projects that support literacy and education.
