Student Testimonials:

I really enjoyed taking this class.  It has been several years since I have weeded through the mentor texts I have on my “teacher bookshelf.” This gives me a much more manageable collection of books that I know I can use throughout the year that will serve a variety of purposes.  I feel more organized, both in the texts I will use, and how I will use them, and that is what I was hoping to achieve in taking this class!

This class has been both fun and informational.  I have enjoyed learning about books that I can use in my classroom to teach both reading and writing.

I think this class is beneficial for all teachers beginning and experienced because it opens the door for so many different techniques to use with a simple book that all children will enjoy.

All in all, this class exceeded my expectations and I am happy that my goals were met. I recommend this class for any teacher who is looking for resources for finding and using mentor texts in their classroom. I believe this was a valuable and worthwhile course!

Instructor Brooke provided nice feedback right away and I could tell she knew her stuff. Even though this class was online, I felt connected to instructor Brooke through our email correspondences, which were more like conversations. I did not realize there were different ways to classify mentor texts, and that was really great to learn. This class was not just about mentor texts, but also how to use them in the classroom in a variety of applications from writing to reading.
