Student Testimonials:

There were so many benefits of this class for me and my students. I loved having the opportunity to read and write poetry. I found that the more immersed in poetry I became, the more I started thinking about poetry. My thoughts became lines to be written down. I know my students loved getting better-quality poetry lessons and being exposed to a variety of poems. This class surpassed my expectations in how much fun I had doing it and how well my students did with writing poetry.

The most beneficial part of this class is that I’m now equipped with quality examples of a wide range of poetry from a variety of poets. In addition to this, each poem comes with a clear (detailed, but not overly lengthy) lesson plan with student examples.

The two books were informative and provided lessons and ideas that I’ll be able to use in the future. It makes a difference when the required reading texts are actually books that I can have in my classroom and reference often. The assignments were clearly written and expectations of each assignment weren’t a mystery. Your feedback was always very timely and constructive.

I really enjoyed this class and discovered even more joy in teaching poetry.  Thank you very much!  I knew that I had to acquire some new ideas for how to “mix up” my poetry unit and bring some new ideas to the table.  The most beneficial aspects to this class are the texts and poetry samples, the prompts and techniques that are so inspiring and fun, and the requirement to teach some of the selected poems and share our reflections.  This class definitely met my expectations because I have a new outlook on teaching poetry, and I’m very excited to incorporate poetry throughout the entire school year.

I appreciated how this class has a clear course syllabus, and it has made me think deeply about teaching poetry.

I found a lot of good teaching and thinking within each assignment. It was easy for me to envision a world where I use a lot of this information, which is really all you can ask for when taking these courses. I’ve had some where I simply jumped through hoops and found nothing authentic, so having the exact opposite experience was fulfilling.  I found this course helped bolster what I already do with poetry, while also giving me A) more poems to choose from, and B) more ways to get into those conversations and activities.

This course opened my eyes to many different ways that I can integrate poetry into my district's structured curriculum. I never realized how poetry can reinforce so many different subjects and skills. These books and lessons have given me confidence to teach poetry to my students throughout the year and across many subjects. Thank you for expanding my knowledge and comfort zone with poetry!

As always, TINT makes it incredibly easy for me to work at my own pace. The feedback is timely and always reflective of the personal work I’ve completed. It never feels canned or rushed. I don’t usually find texts to be worth using after a class. I appreciate that the books we were required to purchase for this course will be used time and time again as I expand poetry writing with my students.

[The] the activities you had me complete made it really easy to actually enjoy the process. Never once did I dread opening the texts and going through the assignments
